Biography

The Cedar Girls' Secondary School Choir has distinguished herself as a Gold award choir at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging of Choirs. Under the direction of Choral Director, Ms Naomi Chye, the Choir was admitted into the prestigious Ministry of Education Choral Excellence Programme in 2002 and was honoured with The Rotary Club Ambassador of the Arts Award in 2004. The Choir also received several notable awards at the SYF, being the Gold with Honours award in 2005, 2007 and 2011. The Choir also brings honour to the nation by garnering several awards at overseas competitions: Musica Religiosa in Czech Republic; the Pacific Basin Music Festival in Hawaii; the International Music Festival in Sydney, Australia; and the Bournemouth Music Maker Festival in the United Kingdom.Besides competition, the Choir also actively promotes cultural awareness through choral exchange with high schools from Japan, Hong Kong, and the A Cappella Choir Villach from Austria. The mission in sharing their passion for choral music with the community was also realized through the collaboration with the local band, Budak Pantai as well as the Singapore American School Choir and Orchestra.The Choir strongly believes that these concert platforms will continue to realize the Choir’s vision in nurturing Musical Talents and developing Confidence and Showmanship.
